NFHS Network Athletes in the Olympics

Olympic_Rings.svgFor amateur athletes, the Olympics represents the pinnacle of achievement. The training and discipline required to even qualify for the Olympics, let alone win a medal, is something I will never understand.

If you're looking for athletes to root for as you watch, we'd like to offer up a few who have been featured on the NFHS Network during their high school competitions (imagine being 17 and lining up next to Missy Franklin in the Colorado State Finals):

Devon Allen - Track & Field

Jay Litherland - Swimming

Events: 400m Individual Medley

Age: 20

High School: Chattahoochee High School (Johns Creek, GA)


Mallory Pugh - Soccer

Position: Forward

Age: 18

High School: Mountain Vista High School (Highlands Ranch, CO)


Missy Franklin - Swimming

Events: 200m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle

Age: 21

High School: Regis Jesuit High School (Aurora, CO)


Morolake Akinosun - Track & Field

Events: 4x100-meter

Age: 22

High School: Waubonsie Valley High School (Aurora, IL)


Olivia Smoliga - Swimming

Events: 100m Backstroke

Age: 21

High School: Glenbrook South High School (Glenview, IL)


Ryan Murphy - Swimming

Events: 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke

Age: 21

High School: The Bolles School (Jacksonville, FL)
