ST. LOUIS, Missouri - - It was all business for Lamar Friday night at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis. The Tigers cruised 37-0 over Malden, capturing a fifth straight state championship.
Senior Danny Embry led Lamar with 107 yards rushing and a score. Sophomore Stuart McKarus went 3-3, passing for 39 yards and 2 touchdowns, as well as rushed for 60 yards.
Lamar (15-0) finished the season undefeated for the first time since 1939. It was their 5th shutout of the season, and the 12th time they held an opponent under ten points.
It was Malden’s (14-1) first finals appearance since 1969. The Green Wave were eliminated last season by Lamar in the state semifinals.
