California Games of the Week - Week One

Posted by Jacob Plunkett on 8/24/16 8:00 PM

There's nothing quite like Week One.

A seemingly neverending offseason finally comes to an end as the entire town buzzes with an excitement bordering on hysteria. Every team is undefeated, and every fan dreams of a playoff birth, a region title, a state championship...

It's time to prove your supporters right and your critics wrong. Time to turn summer preparation into fall results.

Undefeated starts with 1-0.

Oak Grove San Jose vs. Saint Francis Mountain View

Friday, August 26th - 7:15pm PT

Two of the top teams in the Central Coast Section meet in Week 1 - a rematch of last season's CCS championship game in which Oak Grove came back from down 14 to beat Saint Francis.

St. Mary's vs. Junipero Serra

Saturday, August 27th - 1:00pm PT

St. Mary's opens up their difficult non-section schedule by taking a trip to Central Coast power, Serra - who will be extra hungry after not being eligible for the playoffs in 2015. Watch out for Serra's QB, Leki Nunn, who threw AND ran for over 1,000 yards last year, and accounted for 32 touchdowns.

Analy vs. Maria Carrillo

Friday, August 26th - 7:30pm PT

Two North Coast section squads look to open the season at 1-0. Analy won their first 13 games last year (including a 27-14 win over Maria Carrillo) before losing the Division 3 Championship game.

Palma vs. Sutter

Friday, August 26th - 7:30pm PT

Sutter is looking to move past last year's ugly, 42-14 beatdown at the hands of Palma, as these two California powers meet to start their seasons.

Chaparral vs. Rancho Cucamonga

Friday, August 26th - 6:45pm PT

Rancho Cucamonga and their highly-touted secondary travel to Chaparral Friday as the two CIF Southern Section foes kick off their 2016 season.
