The inaugural 2015 Broadcast Academy was held July 17-19 in Atlanta, Ga. at the Westin Hotel and Conference Center. Over 100 students and teachers from 21 different states attended the three day academy. All attendees participated in interactive, hands-on workshops that taught students valuable production, broadcast and reporting skills. High school broadcast students were able to gain experience in LIVE broadcast situations and were also able to share their knowledge of high school sports and news productions.
Students went on a behind the scenes tour of Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves, Friday evening. While there, famous MLB Broadcaster Chip Caray spoke with the students about his experience in the business. Throughout the weekend other notable broadcasters, businessmen, professors and professionals were keynote speakers at the event. ESPN Anchor Chris Cotter, Atlanta Hawks CEO Steve Koonin, ESPN/ABC Broadcaster Brad Nessler, UGA Sports Professor Vicki Michaelis and CSE President Adam Zimmerman all spoke with attendees during the weekend.
